As I drove home, my mind unravelled the story I had just listened to. The childhood that one experienced. My heart ached for this child, now an adult. The lost feeling and desire for acceptance but found none. The broken home and the trail of addiction from family to them. To me, she was beautiful. The love of The Lord shined through her. The power He had in her life to overcome. To succeed. As I sat, I wondered how many would just look at the exterior and judge, missing the beauty I saw. To me, each mark of ink told her story. Told of her survival. This was her way of expression. But many don't see as I saw. They don't look into the interior also. To me, as I learn about the interior, I grow to love my friends more
and see the beauty even more so in their exterior. God has an amazing way of making us shine beautifully when He lives inside us. This is what I saw in her. Unfortunately, as I have said before, too many miss that. Quick to judge the person by the way they look, instead of learning who they are. Missing out on the experience of true beauty. Of a person once lost but now found. That was my story also in another world. A spiral of drug addiction, piercings, tattoos..and more. Not many tried to learn who I really was. No one tried to save me. Jesus loves the lost. He loves the ones from broken homes. He cares to hear our stories. To pull us from a path of destruction. My story is that . My friends story is that. People may look at her and me, think we are nothing alike..but we are.
I bare the ink on my skin that she does, just not as visible. I have holes in my skin from the piercings that she has. I hold a story in my heart of overcoming, just like she does. We all have a story to tell..and to hear. I pray that we all can be like Jesus, to accept people the way they are..to love them from the inside out.
So we no longer look at people the way the world does, judging them by their outward appearance. That's the way we once judged Christ, but not now. Anyone who is born again in Christ is a new creation. Old values have passed away and new values have taken over.
