One of the things that have ruined some of my relationships is my past and a lot of the time it was my fault. For fear of someone getting to know the real me, the sin filled past of me, I clammed up. I never shared anything about myself to them. Nothing. I just tried to conform myself to what they wanted and not be who I truly was. In the end, instead of helping the relationship, it ruined it. Who wants to be with someone fake? Someone that constantly walked on eggshells for fear of anything of their past come out and haunt them? It's awful. Today I want to talk about sin. It's there. We live with it every day. I just was sharing with a friend yesterday about how it works. It's a daily thing. A continually moment by moment asking God for help kind of thing. As I was running, I felt rather defeated against the battle but remembered Paul's words as he cried out what a wretched man he was.(Romans 7:24)
These words give me encouragement to keep going. To not worry so much of my past but to understand it more. You see, even Paul had his struggles. Paul knew inside his heart what a battle he had against the world but the awesome part is, he wasn't alone! God was with him each step of the way. He had changed him from Saul to Paul! So do not let your past overwhelm you or your current struggles take over.
So, how to deal with this in relationships. When God asked me to start sharing my past, it was then that I started to come out of my shell. I blossomed. No longer afraid of what the world would say as I knew in my heart what my redeemer promised. I was forgiven. So, my friends, remember that. You are forgiven. Do not hide in a shell or conform to what you feel someone wants you to be..in the end, if they truly love you , they will, as Christ has done, forgive you. (Ephesians 4:32)
What about current sin?
It's a daily thing. A constant take it to God thing.
Change your thoughts and your actions. It's rather like when I use to smoke.
Due to the constant habit of smoking, I had to retrain myself to doing something else. Say you have a bitter thought inside..change it. Its hard work..but worth it in the end.
God has asked of us, that if we truly love Him, we will keep His commandments. In doing this, we will learn to be all that we ever desired to be. To become the flower God designed of us. Also, in doing so, any relationship that we prepare ourselves for will blossom. Sin has eaten away the blessings of a union between man and wife but God is there to help. He promises to help us.
So goal today. Transform your thoughts. Instead of thinking negative thoughts or actions, retrain them to what you think you should say. The more and more you say it, the easier it will become. So, in the end, the more you say it, the more you will start to feel it. God loves you. You are a new you. Not a person from the past but washed as white as snow. Glorify in what He has done for you and blessed you with.
1 Corinthians 6:9-11
Surely you know that people who do wrong will not get to enjoy God’s kingdom. Don’t be fooled. These are the people who will not get to enjoy his kingdom: those who sin sexually, those who worship idols, those who commit adultery, men who let other men use them for sex or who have sex with other men, those who steal, those who are greedy, those who drink too much, those who abuse others with insults, and those who cheat. In the past some of you were like that. But you were washed clean, you were made holy, and you were made right with God in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
