There is this constant struggle within us of feeling like a failure. The times we find ourselves repeatedly falling into the same old trap, making the same ol mistake..and just like the v8 commercial, thumping ourselves on the head in aggravation of why..why did we do that AGAIN?
Trust me..no matter what sin has befallen you, be it big or small, I have learned one huge thing. God is a God of second chances, and many more.
There was a story shared on my favorite tv station on Sunday that spoke of this exactly. She shared about her friend who was teaching her daughter how to play piano. Did she thump her on the head or punish her severely if she made a mistake? No..she patiently and lovingly guided her to the right way to play. It's the same way with God.
I have learned that if we let ourselves think that we have made one mistake too many and we are lost..no good..then what is that saying to us about God? Do you truly believe He is the type of parent to toss us to the curb? A few days ago, before this story, I had shared with my mom about the battle inside me. I struggled at times with feeling the defeat and unworthiness. To know, even as I write to each of you today, I am a big mess up. How can I be worthy to do Gods work when I am still tripping up over myself? But she just looked at me and said one thing,"Thank goodness, God is a God of second chances."
Amen. Then He brought the story into my life Sunday too. He is reminding me and you that it's OK, if we are truly contrite, He forgives us. Maybe some of our sins are more apparent to the world...but they are no different. We cringe and worry what people may say or think about us...when only one really matters..God. And is He judging you anymore? Is He thumping you over the head, reminding you what a failure you are? No..He, as a loving Father, wants to hold you close, wipe your tears from your eyes, pat you on the back, and send you back into the world to do His work. Like any of the greats in the Bible..when they stumbled, He didn't send them to eternal doom, but sent them back out. They repeatedly slipped up..and like me, made the same mistakes again and again, like Abraham for instance, until FINALLY they got it. They didn't mess up again. They finally were free.
Just like drug addiction, smoking, and alcohol...it's a severe struggle and battle. You will continually slip up..until one day..your free! It is the same way with any sin in our life. God is patient and full of grace. Don't ever become too discouraged. He's got this. He will help you win this battle and perhaps you will be even stronger and better then you were before. Even more of a powerful messenger of God!!
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
